Between 1870 and 1880, a chapel dedicated to the Sagrada Familia in Desterro was built, in a place away from the population center, but in which some houses were being built.
In 1903 - 1913, it was replaced by the present chapel, which has undergone changes till now.
In 1946, they built five neoclassical altarpieces from the old Mercy in this chapel: one in the chancel (which was greatly altered and added by the carver António Gonçalves de Castro, the “Quilores”) and the others in the chapel nave. In the 80's, they retreated the altarpieces from the body of the chapel and removed decorative elements from the Attics, to expand the space.
It has naturalistic images of the twentieth century, some by José Ferreira Tedim.
