Nossa Senhora da Natividade do Castelinho ShrineThe presente image of Nossa Senhora da Natividdae do Castelinho is a reconstruction from 1877. The shrine has a churchyard surrounded by trees and it is an extraordinary place from where we can see a varied and impressive scenery: the majestic Serra do Marão, the Serra da Aboboreira still farther, the Crasto hill and the huge parts of the Penafiel hills that piecefully go down over the river Tâmega. The Castelinho is a settlement in a wild landscape. It is said that the name of Castelinho has origins in its position, which is in a balcony that looks like a small castle. The legend says that the apparition of Our Lady happened in a rock in the place of Chelo, where the popular belief marks the signs.
