Castro Laboreiro is certainly well worth visiting by the many points of interest you’ll find there. The Ponte da Cava da Velha, or simply Ponte Nova, is one of those points.
This Roman bridge rises above the river Laboreiro, in the heart of the Parque Nacional da Peneda-Gerês. Its origin dates back from the 1st century, in spite of being rebuilt and transformed in a two arched bridge with a deck in the Middle Age. From this medieval construction it’s still possible to sight the pavement made of large slabs and ashlar masonry guards that link, at both sides of the bridge, the Roman paving.
Don’t miss this interesting construction, classified as a National Monument since 1986.
