In the village of Marmelal you can enjoy the scenic picture: the Douro river through the valley, with the mouth of the River Tedo, that joins to Douro, framed by the beauty of the terraced vineyards where are cultivated the grapes for the production of the excellent Douro wines and Porto. Marmelal, second town of the locality, was one of the first municipalities of Armamar. It had charter in the year 1194. For centuries the population had no access by land, and the Douro River was the only contact with the outside.
