The building was design by the architect Rodrigues Lima, the garden and its location in the city centre, made possible to use this museum for cultural activities. Complementary
to the Museum and the University Gallery which hosts temporary art exhibitions; Auditoriums for conferences and concerts; the Photo Library where are preserved several photographic archives and educational service with a varied program of activities for schools.
The permanent exhibition includes an important porcelain collection, pieces of furniture, painting, silver, ivory and some tapestries and tiles.
