Description

The teacher of the Elementary school and photographer Arnaldo Duarte da Silva, taught over twenty years, and at same time has gathered extensive range pieces of archaeological and ethnographic interest, a vast collection of images (mostly photographs) of the region of Torre de Moncorvo and of the remaining counties of Douro Superior, as well as photographic implements related to the art of photography. We highlight the collections and acquisitions of "Foto Peixe", a photographic collection of Dr. Horácio Brilhante Simões, the file of the "Estúdio Torre", of the photographer Manuel Carva, and the collection of Father Francisco Manuel de Castro.

In 2004, purchases a building, inside the medieval perimeter of Torre de Moncorvo, near the Church of Mercy, to install here a small museum dedicated to photography and its archaeological and ethnographic collections. The space is opened on July 12, 2009, and at that time, launched a magazine titled "Superior D´Ouro", about the theme and the main contents of this museum centre, private nature.

However, the professional duties of the owner did not allow this space was permanently open to the public. Thus, on March 19, 2014, the municipality of Torre de Moncorvo signs a lease contract, ensuring the possibility of visiting all those interested in the topics presented here. The space reopens on April 19, 2014.
