Museu do Douro

Peso da Régua
Description

The Museu do Douro as a territory museum represents the natural and cultural heritage of the Douro Demarcated Region, declared as World Heritage by UNESCO as an evolving and living cultural landscape. The building is located in the city of Peso da Régua and is the result of an intervention in one of the most remarkable buildings in the history of the Douro Demarcated Region of the XVIII century – the Casa da Companhia. The Museum holds the memories and identity of this wine region and is, simultaneously, an instrument that values the activities associated to viticulture, cultural tourism and wine tourism. Contiguous to the exhibitions area there is the Restaurant A Companhia, the Gift Shop, the Archive, the Library, the Reading Room, the Wine Bar and the exterior bar in the garden with view to the Douro River. The adjacent modern building is the workspace of the Educational Services of the Museum. The permanent exhibition “Reminiscence of the Wine Country” is set inside the old Armazém 43 and represents the Vine and Wine cultures, the vine activities, the construction of the landscape, the path to the production of excellent wines, the fauna and flora, the rabelos, the quintas, the historical heritage, the harvest traditions, the tools and the images of the great port wine brands.
