The Municipal Library of Torre de Moncorvo is installed in one of the most beautiful Solar of Torre de Moncorvo. Emblazoned, inserted in the center of the village, its proximity to the Mother Church gives greater grandeur.

The beauty of this building is well short of the cultural richness and human terminating itself. An attractive and diverse space for all types of audiences. Here received the 3rd International Architecture Biennale of Sao Paulo in 1997, the Historic Heritage Award.

Inaugurated on February 1, 1997, by the then President of the Republic, Jorge Sampaio, the Municipal Library of Torre de Moncorvo (BM1) has affirmed itself over time, as an important meeting place with culture and knowledge.

It is an important cultural facility that is characterized as an open space to the community, providing privileged access to works of literary and scientific dissemination as well as those that are intended for leisure time and which are their bibliographic background.

The Library is available to users over 20,000 books, periodicals and audiovisual documents, which cover all areas of knowledge. Offers its users, in addition to traditional services - Reading presence, home loan, bibliographic guidance and various information - a variety of services ranging from photocopying, free use of internet and computer for schoolwork, consult the Daily Republic ...

After these 17 years, the Library has evolved to serve more and better population of the county is translating through the exponential increase in the number of users.

In terms of dynamics, their most important initiatives should be highlighted as regular reporting of exposures animated reading, storytelling, video sessions, “teatralizações”, various "workshops", reading to the elderly, cooperation with other institutions and the opening of the Library pool (2007) during the bathing season, with the ever present goal of stimulating interest in reading.
