The Municipal Archive of Vila Real is installed in a house dating towards the end of the 19th century, and the beginning of the 20th century, and of "Brazilian" style (as at that time, it was how the project was known, due to the return of immigrants in Brasil and there, having made great fortunes), this is the place where the handling of documentary heritage of the city, being in that context the management service of the entire City Council.
Its the place for receiving documents, whereby special attention was given to screening cycles, preparation storage and filing of documents and subsequent accessibility of its contents to the public.
Currently, the resources in the custody of the Municipal Archives display extreme dates from 1515 (Foral Manueline considered ("Exceptional Value Section") to 1998 (Project Documentation, Accounting and Personnel).
