The Memorial to the Castaways, designed by the architect Manuel Maia Gomes, was inaugurated in Caxinas, the largest fishing community in the country, on November 16, 2014, the National Sea Day
This monument aims to honor the men of our fishing community who, in the Portuguese coast and other countries lost their lives at sea and will perpetuate the memory of the fishermen from Vila do Conde missing at sea.
In the memorial we can read the phrase "The Sea returns me a memory of you. And it redeem you for eternity."
