The thermal properties of the water are recognized and have been valued for many years, more specifically since 1884, when the wife of a doctor from Vila Nova Cerveira, who suffered from a stomach ailment, was cured. Since then, this SPA has gone through various stages, some better than others. Strolling through the Thermal Park, surrounded by a leafy vegetation across which a small river(known as Bouça Nova) passes, we may discover the two springs - the Main Source and the New Source or New Gallery - the Buvete - an imposing architectural iron building, designed by an engineer named Louis Couto dos Santos; the bathhouse - a discrete industrial and iron construction; the bottling factory- a discrete industrial building; and the old Hotel do Peso - in ruins, reminding us of the times when the place was full of spa bathers.
Today, after a thorough rehabilitation and remodeling process, the place is now equipped with spaces which, together with high-quality equipment, complete each other perfectly to the practice of integrated treatments for the indications provided by the water of Melgaço.
