This was the first railway connection between the two banks. It is also the first iron work, with the project of the famous Engineer Gustave Eiffel. Its inauguration on the 4th November 1877, counted with the presence of Queen D. Maria Pia and her husband the King D. Luiz I. In its time was an audacious and creative work of engineering that dazzled and still dazzles Portuguese and foreigners.
