To reach Marco de Fronteira number 1, after parking, follow the sign indicating the foot-path. This sign will guide you through “caneja” (term widely used by the locals to mean narrow path) which, in the past, was used to reach Porto de Bregote, from where we could cross Minho river in the border between Portugal and Spain. This crossing was used by general population, and was also one of the local smuggling routes. Once in Cevide there is a sign indicating we are in the farthest north place of Portugal, located in Cristoval, municipality of Melgaço
We want to bring you both to the farthest north place of Portugal, and to a beautiful landscape.
Besides its peculiar characteristics (it is said we can hear cocks singing in three different provinces: Minho, Pontevedra and Ourense), it is also a resting place in Nature… actually, here begins Portugal.
Location: Melgaço
