Situated at the top of Avenida Marechal Carmona, the old Luiz de Freitas Theatre building resembles the Cinema Paradiso that everyone likes to look at.
The old theatre was built by a cooperative. Its concert hall is wide and ample, measuring 110 sq.m., and has a large stage and beautiful scenarios.
Its 19th century architecture is cultural and revivalist, and results from the adaptation of an old warehouse into a concert hall. Later, the interior was significantly remodelled twice, the last works taking place in the 20th century.
The building has a simple rectangular plan, spread horizontally, and a gabled roof with projected eaves. Discrete without decorative elements, the building has single-section plastered and painted façades, rectangular windows with wooden frames. The balcony on the second floor is situated over the main entrance and has an iron rail.
The Tabuaço Theatre is one of the rectangular plan theatre halls, in a contraposition arrangement, and has an auditorium with a ground floor and an upper floor.
