The Lourosa Zoo is a zoological facility with some unique features – it is the only ornithological park in the country. Exclusively devoted to birds, it boasts a collection of about 500 specimens from 150 different species, distributed among 80 captivity habitats. In fact, it is one of the most emblematic and significant bird collections in the Iberian Peninsula, and mirrors the reality of birdlife in the five continents. It is one of the few such facilities in Europe. Located in Lourosa, a city with a strong cork industry in the municipality of Santa Maria da Feira, the Lourosa Zoo is a 15 minutes’ drive away from Oporto, boasting a prime location near the approaches to the A1, A29 and A41 motorways, a few metres from the EN1 national road. Strongly targeting the family and school audiences, this unique equipment crosses over all ages like very few others. The public’s natural fascination for animal life can be satisfied here, and there is also the possibility of contacting and experiencing realities that constitute the Zoo’s main purpose – recreating habitats, reproducing species and recycling knowledge.
