Santa Maria da Feira
Description

It is a space devoted to History and Heritage, whose goal is to safeguard, enhance and divulge the testimonies and memories of the historical and cultural legacy of the municipality and its region, by promoting several activities of interest to the understanding of the cultural diversity of the region and also of the country. Its permanent exhibit boasts sections devoted to Archeology, History and Ethnography, where it explains the origin of Man and the evolution and development of a vast administrative district which was once known as the Land of Santa Maria. Founded as the Municipal Library-Museum of Vila da Feira on 5 February 1938, it was inaugurated on 20 January 1940. In 1992, it became separated from the library and was installed in the century-old building of the Lóios Convent. In 2000, the Municipal Museum Network of Santa Maria da Feira was created, and the Municipal Museum gained a new momentum as the network’s main facilities, becoming the Lóios Convent Museum.
