The Fé em Deus (English translation ‘Faith in God’) was built in 1991 under a project to recover and protect the traditional skills of our maritime heritage. It represents one of the last ‘Lanchas Poveiras do Alto’, which vanished in the 1950s but were formerly used to fish for hake on the high seas. They often carried a crew of 30 to 40.The ‘Lancha’ is an excellent example of the typical vessels used by Póvoa’s fishing community, based on the same model but varying in size (‘Batel’, ‘Catraia’, ‘Caíco’) depending on the type of fish being caught.
