Located in the parish of Bico, the Lameiro das Cebolas is a peat bog where organic matter decomposes more slowly than it is accumulated, leading to the deposit of a substrate called peat, which was once cut, dried and used as an alternative for charcoal in many countries. It is currently being recovered through ecological restoration measures, enabling the preservation of the mosaic of habitats and wildlife that depends on this kind of wetland ecosystems.
