In 1916, they arrive in Lisbon, after a brief stay in Madrid, after which they settle in Vila do Conde with the American painter Sam Halpert and Eduardo Viana. The house that they occupied, at Avenida Bento de Freitas, was named by Sonia as “La simultanée”. About Vila do Conde, she reveals to us his impressions: "... we went to Vila do Conde in northern Portugal. There the light was not violent but extolled all the colours. There were multi-coloured houses or of a splendorous white, with an always sober line. I remember the countrymen and their popular suits, the tissues, the ceramics of an ancient beauty, of an exceptional purity, the crowds in the festivals ... We had the impression of living in a dream country. We throw us with body and soul to the painting. We painted from morning to night. We had come to spend a month, we stayed more than a year. "

In 1917, the Delaunay leave again for Spain and later to France.

Sonia dies in December 5, 1979 in Paris.
