General description:
It is a circular trail starting and finishing in one of the following places: Carvalhal de Valinhas; Pereiras; Capela do Monte Padrão. This trail connects with the trail "PR 2 ST - Padrão" next to Quinta de Linhares.
Monte Padrão:
Monte Padrão is located on the left bank of the river Ave, in the parish of Cordova, a few kilometers southeast of Santo Tirso City. The Monte Padrão roman settlement was dug in the fifties, becoming of an extraordinary scientific importance for the study of the distant past of the region.It is classified as National Monument since 1922.
In 1986, the Municipality of Santo Tirso and the National Service for Archaeology of the North Region, began a set of actions in order to protect, to study and to appreciate this archaeological site.
The oldest occupation on Monte Padrão reports to the Bronze Final Age, corresponding to the period of formation of the “Cultura Castreja" (Roman Settlement Culture.)
Pereiras:
A Serra Hidráulica de Pereiras is a remarkable example of pre-industrial architecture. It is dedicated to sawmilling wood for industrial and domestic, using that the power of water to move the mill to saw.
It will be rehabilitated, becoming a museum pole of pre-industrial activities. It is classified as Public Interest Property.
Senhor do Padrão:
Small eighteenth-century chapel Located on Monte Padrão that houses a polychrome granite image of Christ Crucified.
The legend says that this chapel marks the place where was located the old church of the Benedictine Monastery.
Azenhas de Valinhas:
In order to harness the power of the water, several windmills and watermills were established along the various tributaries of the river Leça.
The watermills of Valinhas have a great value for the understanding of the small economic activities of the local people.
Quedas de Fervença:
Locality located next to Carvalhal de Valinhas, where the waterfalls present a magnificent spectacle of nature.
Rio Leça:
The river Leça borns in Santo Tirso County, runing through the parishes of the southern part towards the Atlantic Ocean, flowing near the town of Matosinhos.
Along the river, we can see a variety of fauna and flora cohabiting in its banks. Men took advantage of the river from long ago, establishing wind and water mills by the land that the river runs through.
