Germil Village
Located in the fertile mountains of Serra Amarela, the village of Germil still preserves the environment and community experience of times gone by. Concentrated in a cluster of typical houses with a reddish brown doors and windows, Germil has narrow streets in stone pavement and we can see water spouting from everywhere. On top of one of the granite silos there is a memorable sun-dial. The old mill and the main church, dated from 1880, deserve a visit. Germil is the ideal place to rest, to enjoy pleasant moments of reflection and to go through the countryside. Near the village, discover the “Fojo do Lobo” (Wolf Trap) which extends over 1400 meters, on the western bank of river Germil. On the same road, in direction to the village, we catch a glimpse of “silhas”, circular stone buildings that served as swarms protection against bears attacks, when they still existed in the Peneda Gerês National Park.
