Gate of Peneda-Gerês National Park at Lamas de Mouro

Melgaço
Description

One of the main entrances to the sublime Parque Nacional da Peneda-Gerês is the Porta de Lamas de Mouro. Inaugurated in 2004 as a result of the partnership between the Câmara Municipal de Melgaço and the Parque Nacional da Peneda-Gerês, this was the first of five gates to the park, providing many supporting infrastructures to the visitors.

It claims to be a privileged place for the visitor's first acquaintance with the park, and assumes a more educational function in promoting a sustainable tourism and nature's preservation. Finally, it also assumes an important role in developing the region by promoting local products.

Visit its three buildings and many open air spaces ranging a total area of about 25 acres. At the reception, you’ll be able to access privileged information on all of the Park's assets, from which we highlight the hiking trails. In the same building, it’s also possible to have a coffee or attend to some lecture at its auditorium.

At the Oficina Temática, you’ll find a space dedicated to recreational and pedagogical activities, with rooms for painting, drawing and recycling.

Also, visit the interesting permanent exhibition named “Ordenamento do Território”.

Finally, relax on the wide leisure area you’ll find outside featuring pleasant greenish corners, picnic parks, bathhouses and even a camping park. A nice starting point from which to discover this amazing protected area.
