Cruzeiros (Transepts)

Vieira do Minho
Description

The Transepts are large stone crosses, symbols of the Christian belief, usually erected in churchyards, crossroads, parks or cemeteries. The University of Minho, in the course of a survey of the Archaeological and Architectural Heritage of Vieira do Minho, referenced 21 transepts in Vieira do Minho, being the parish of Campos with the largest number (3). This study further refers to the Transept of Vilarchão as being the most antique in the County, dating from 1664.
