The Padrão Cross Stone is about seven metres high, based on a recent foundation in pyramidal trunk, on which rests the original rectangular granite platform. The shaft, a smooth classical column, stands on it. On the abacus, a smooth sphere, serves as golgotha to a latin cross with a square section of arms, topped in clover. The elegant image of Christ is surrounded by a typically baroque effect of radiance. The base of the monument includes an image of Santo António, as well as a reference to the Eucharist sacrament. It was protected by an iron fence that consisted of steps that were cut in early 1910, the year it became a national monument by decree of 16 June. It is integrated in the old axis of the city of Valongo, alongside the old road linking the city of Porto with Penafiel, being framed by buildings of the XVIII, XIX and XX centuries.
