The Castro de Monte Mozinho is an old roman setllement founded in the 1st century a.C. with an extensive chronology of occupation dating until the V century that makes part of the Municipal Museum. Fortified with two lines of walls, this Castro has an extensive inhabited area with about 22 hectares, being possible to observe both, traditional and simple courtyard houses, or more complex square and rectangular houses. At the top of the Castro stands out the wall of the first century, whose entrance was flanked by two towers on which stood two statues of Galician warriors, exhibited now in the Municipal Museum. The top of the Castro is crowned by the acropolis, which is bordered by a thick wall without indoor buildings. Various activities such as games, assemblies, market, etc., took place here. The Castro do Monte Mozinho excavations began in 1943 and were resumed in 1974, having no longer stopped. This estate can be seen in the Municipal Museum of Penafiel.
