Carvalhal do Avelar

Montalegre
Description

This oak forest, centenary, constitutes a high ecological value heritage, landscape, cultural, historic, and it is fundamental to its ongoing preservation and conservation. The activity "inside the oak wood of Avelar" allows you to note, in particular of native species (such as oak alvarinho and Pyrenean Oak) and, more generally, of great biodiversity, as it serves as habitat to several species of fauna and flora. In addition, it should be noted that the oak forest has been a place of passage and habitat for packs of Iberian wolf and join the historical facts relating to the pursuit of the Wolf. To prove all this there is a converging walls fojo ("Fojo of Avelar"), located near the oak forest, a kind of secular trap (16th century), built in stone, whose aim was the capture of the Wolf.
