The Caminho da Barbacã (Barbacã Path) is one of the lesser-known paths of Vila Nova de Cerveira which allows us to circulate through the walls as it was the fight in the Middle Age. This path appeared with the strengthening of the defensive capacities of the castle, when it was made a second lower wall that today is hidden by the houses that were built in XVI century and were addorsed as the castle was losing military value and use. This winding path follows the shape of the castle and towers being possible in most of them to see the marks left by the 52 stone masons who built the castle. In the XVII century, at the time of Restoration Wars, it was possible to notice the typological difference in the wall, where the paraments are inclined and topped by the typical frieze of the bulwark fortifications.
