The multipurpose pavilion of Caldas de Aregos was built in the place of an old farm barn, where the wheat produced by Resende's farmers was kept.
This equipment is located in a privileged hillside overlooking the river Douro and consists of two large spaces of great versatility, which can be resized by means of a system of movable panels, allowing for versatile use of the building, from exhibitions to festivals, fairs, and even performing music, theatre and cinema shows, and conferences.
Taking advantage of the great height of the building, it was created above the service area a space for education and leisure activities, where there was installed some optical equipment, including a dark room, an astronomical observatory, and an observation deck.
Every year, the “Barn” hosts the Festa das Cavacas (The Cavacas Festival), an event that promotes the renowned Cavacas de Resende, Resende's traditional sweet, with an event plenty of entertainment, with a wide range of activities, organised by the Companhia das Águas de Aregos and the municipality of Resende.
