The new Municipal Library of Viana do Castelo, designed by the architect Siza Vieira, is nestled between the Lima River and the historical city centre. The building occupies a total area of 3,130 m2 and is developed on two floors, with the ground floor installation of technical services, work and consultation offices of reserved, deposit area, multi-purpose hall, bar, service desk, storage and sanitary facilities. The upper floor has a large reading room and a children's section, work rooms and multimedia, more restricted areas for reading and workshops of artistic expression. This floor also has reception, lobby bar and reprography. Natural light floods the various spaces, especially reading.
