Belvedere of Vale do Rio Laboreiro

Melgaço
Description

The river Castro Laboreiro, or simply Laboreiro, is a Portuguese river that springs up in the plateau of Castro Laboreiro, on the western slope of the Laboreiro mountain, about 3km east of Branda de Portos. Bending to the south, it marks the boundaries between the mountains of Peneda and Laboreiro. In its final section, of about 14km, it marks the border between Portugal and Spain, flowing in the Lima River, near the village of Lindoso. It belongs to the basin of the river Lima and to the hydrographic region of Minho and Lima.

The Laboreiro River also helps to enrich a set of extraordinary beauty, snaking down the mountain, before joining the river Lima. Joining its banks, there remain the bridges that various civilizations have built up over time. There are mainly roman and Romanesque bridges. From the Roman occupation, the Bridges Cava da Velha (nation monument) is a good example, and from the Romanesque, the bridges Assureira and Dorna, dating back to the twelfth century, are also good examples.

The inverneiras, is lowland in the valleys of the parish, particularly in the two banks of the valley of the river Laboreiro. It’s a cycle that repeats itself thousands of years in this high plateau; a few thousand feet above the sea level. From here, a long line of horizons with the neighboring Spain is set (to where you can go, following the Ameijoeira road).
