The Inverneiras are small centers of habitation, characteristic of mountainous areas with a predominant system of agro – pastoral, planned for transhumance, in this case, used during the winter. Constituded the essence of austere buildings, served as a counterpoint to the brandas (its summer equivalent), allowing the return of the shepherd and his flock, the more favourable climate of the lowlands, where the conditions of the mountain plateau became more harsh. These constructions present simple volumes and constructive solutions, when the use of existing topography represents, a relevant role. Typically show elongated quadrangular shapes, with winds cápeas and stony guard on the roof, revealing the old coating stem. As in the brandas, the courts of the animals are addorsed or, more often located on a lower floor, witch allowed leverage through the house, its heat to the rooms above.
