The rehabilitation works of the Atlantic Front of Vila do Conde, inserted in the Polis Program, resulted in a surplus value to the quality of local tourism. All the projects designed for the seafront have as striking features the sobriety, seeking to attribute to the sea, the prominent place that is deserved to it.
The promenade and the cycle path of the Atlantic marginal, adjoining the beach, allow us long and relaxing walks or bike rides, for a distance of about 4 kilometers. Along the entire length of the Atlantic marginal there is regularized parking.
At north of Fort St. John it develops the old initial dune, which was gradually disappearing as a result of erosion. Under this program, we tried to restore this area, promoting, for this, the installation of sand retention palisades, removal of infesting species, the creation of walking routes for the dune crossing and the recovery of the plant covering.
Also the area around the Fort of São João Baptista, as well as the area surrounding the monument commemorating the landing attempt of Liberals, were subject to improvement and realignment, seeking to highlight these buildings.
