Aquilino Ribeiro was born in the parish of Carregal in 1885. His work, of universal value, quoted him as one of the most fruitful Portuguese writers of the twentieth century. The house where he was born and the courtyard where he played still remain. The writer had honours of National Pantheon, having bequeathed to the county and to the country valuable portraits of the culture and identity of people from Beiras.
