Amarante Forest Park

Amarante
Description
The Forest Park, with an area of about five hectares, is an example of beauty and healthy living for those who visit it. Visitors can appreciate the variety of flora species - from sequoias, to tilias, platanus and maples - and fauna, such as partridges and jays.
Situated in the heart of the town, in perfect harmony with the Tâmega River, the Amarante Forest Park is much sought after for leisure activities, sports and walks.
It was planned in 1916, on the initiative of António do Lago Cerqueira, and originally its main purpose was to serve as a seedling nursery for the forestation of the Marão and Meia Veia Mountain Ranges. Much later, after the great Marão Mountain Range fire of 1985, thousands seedlings would once again be produced in the park's nurseries in order to reforest the range.
