The typical small village of Almofrela is situated in Serra da Aboboreira hillside, 750 meters above sea level. It is a small village with houses built in traditional architecture, with threshing floors, silos and small streams, all surrounded by agricultural fields and meadows. But, as usual in these mountain villages, the gastronomy, the festivities and its people, are the main points of interest for the visitors. In what concerns the flavors, the “Tasquinha do Fumo” deserves a visit, either on summer or winter seasons. The “Tasquinha do Fumo” was restored and is now a well succeded restaurant known because of the high quality of its cuisine, made with local ingredients in a traditional way.
In the center of the village it is situated the São Brás dos Bugalhos Chapel, which is a simple white colour chapel that has its festivity on the first weekend of frebruary. In the place where used to be the primary school, is now a hostel for visitors. In the surroundings, within a range of five kilometers, the “Campo Arqueológico da Serra da Aboboreira” and its important set of megalithic monuments (Chã de Parada nr. 1 is a National Monument), deserves a visit – an open air historic lesson!
