Vila Nova de Famalicão
Description
Manuel de Sousa Lopes, a buttons industrialist from Northern Portugal since the years of the 20’s from the last century, gained the perception for farming and wines. Owner of two farms in the municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão, Quinta do Cruzeiro with eight hectares of vineyard with the grape varieties Loureiro, Arinto, Trajadura and Chardonnay; and Quinta da Senra with seven hectares of vineyards with the grape varieties Loureiro, Arinto, Chardonnay and Vinhão, managed to pass on this passion from onto further generations, although his real profession had nothing to do with wine production.

Therefore, in 1977, his son Manuel Artur de Sousa Lopes acquires also in Famalicão, specifically in Louro, the Casa da Torre (Tower House).

In this property with five hectares of vineyard with the grape varieties Loureiro, Alvarinho and Sauvignon Blanc the existing cellar is rebuilt and "christened" by the name of "Adega Casa da Torre" (Tower House Winery).
