The Porta da Traição (Treason Door) is one of the original elements from the D. Dinis Castle. It is a small door with narrow dimensions and difficult access, located in a discreet place. Its mission was to allow someone to escape to look for help in case of attempts. The balcony, facing the river, was built later, during the Guerras da Restauração (Restauration Wars). From the balcony, it was possible to hit by the Spanish fortress of Goián. During the French Invasions, General Soult tried to cross the river in here, showing how important this Castle was. This Castle was restored in Pousada (Pousadas de Portugal – a well-known Portuguese accommodation) and at the works one could see the Casernas Militares (Military Shelters). A proof of this is the inscriptions on the lintels of the doors.
