In this scenario, in January 2012, the Municipality of S. João da Madeira launched an Industrial Tourism project, financed by ON.2, consisting of a set of industrial tourist circuits, with the objective of combining the preservation of the industrial archaeological legacy with the promotion of industries considered traditional and new creative and technological industries, through the visit to different manufacturing units in the municipality.
Its mission is the national and international projection of the Municipality of S. João da Madeira and the consolidation and promotion of its tourist dimension linked to industry, enhancing economic and social development, for the sake of the quality of life of citizens. Thus, a consistent tourist dimension emerged in S. João da Madeira, based on the traditional industry, past and present, and on the new technological and creative industries, asserting itself as a tourist product of high economic, cultural and leisure value, through which tourists know companies in activity, being able to relive activities from other times, and visit museological spaces of an industrial nature.
After conquering a relevant place at the national level, asserting itself as a reference project for other municipalities, the Industrial Tourism of this city, intends to expand its circuits to new companies in the municipality, which is why it is constantly building new tourist routes.
