Born in Lisbon, the artist spend his childhood between Lisbon and Berlin, where he followed his father’s work, who is also a painter. Becken Filipe juggled his passions around the duality of his academic formation: Communication Design and Sculpture.
He’s work can be seen has an exploration of the Realism and Naturalism schools into a contemporary perspective, with Austrian Expressionism and Impressionism influences the Artist shares some work and philosophical aesthetics with the contemporary NOVOREALISM movement.
"For my work I feel the need to slow down and to portray, explore and search simplicity and rooted experiences in such a fast and complex world.
In all – forms, compositions, elements and technics I feel the need to approach my work with an ultimate respect for all of the processes. Has if I can not disregard all that was given to me in any of this matters, for so many Artists have been dedicating their lives in the same pursue that I. So much have they contributed in all of this subjects that a certain homage and plenty of respect have to be always present in the process and consequentially in the final result.
ART has I explore it is based in a perceptive view and understanding of reality through human eyes, the nature of naturalism and the sublime felling that memory allows us to have."
